Really, there are only 3 ways to get website traffic!
1. Buy it.
2. Borrow it.
3. Attract it.
Today I’m going to give you four unique and unusual ways to borrow traffic from other website owners. Borrowing traffic usually includes partnering with other website owners to refer traffic to each other. (your LOCAL strategic partners or find them advertising on Groupon etc)
Referred traffic is the BEST and highest quality traffic you can get.
So here they are…
1. TRADE LINKS
One of the most obvious ways to borrow traffic is to simply trade links with other website owners. You put their link on your website and they will put your link on their website. You obviously want to trade links with someone who has a comparable website that has a similar topic and similar popularity and target demographic. Webmasters used to do this by setting up “link directories” on their website. You can still do that, however, I prefer to swap links with fewer, more high quality sites. You can place your links in a “Recommended Websites” area, much like WordPress has a “blogroll” area.
2. AD SWAPS
Swapping ads in each others newsletters or even banner ads on each other’s websites is a VERY effective way to borrow traffic. I’ve known people who have started with a very small list and “ad swapped” their way to HUGE lists generating very large profits and lead generation. You can start out by purchasing some ads to start your list, and then once you have a couple of thousand people on your list, you can start swapping ads with others. All you have to do is ask. That’s all. Just ask other list owners and you’ll be amazed at how many people will agree to swap ads with you.
3. THANK YOU PAGE SWAP
I know one marketer who grew his list to several hundred thousand by just swapping ads on other people’s thank you pages. Heck, you don’t even have to swap ads. What this marketer did was he created a high quality product and gave it to people to put on their thank you page as a free giveaway. Thank you pages are one of the most valuable pieces of property you have on your website. People look at them. You can even do a “co-registration” ad swap by offering another person’s email newsletter on your thank you page and via versa. (when someone purchases from a website they are always taken to a Thank You page. This is the page we are talking about.)
4. AUTO RESPONDER SWAP
Again, I know another marketer who took this strategy and mastered it. The results were that he generated over $800,000 in affiliate commissions in his first year in business. All he did was swap ads in people’s auto responder systems (follow-up email sequences). So in other words, he would insert his swap partners ad in, let’s say, the 5th email in his auto responder. And his swap partner would insert his ad in, let’ say, his 6th auto responder email. Now, every person that sees that email will be exposed to his ad and vice versa. (you should have an email auto responder setup with follow-up emails. Do you?) I like www.icontact.com
My advice is to just take one of these traffic borrowing strategies and focus on it.
