As a small-business owner, you probably wear many hats: customer service, accounting and PR just to name a few. These are all vital roles, but there’s one role that’s crucial to the growth of your company – the marketing role.
Marketing your tutoring or afterschool business doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t require a huge budget. It just requires getting the word out about your company. Follow these tried-and-true (and easy) ways to promote and market your company.
1. Develop a great logo.
A logo is how people will recognize your business. No design chops? No problem. Hire someone to design your logo for you. (Check out sites such as Fiverr for inexpensive creative help.) Just make sure the designer understands your company’s personality and mission.
2. Become a content creator.
Start a company blog (if you haven’t already) to share stories, success tips, industry news, and other relevant content. People crave useful information, and you can create the content they’re seeking.
3. Share your expertise – for free.
Try different ways to offer free bits of knowledge to your customer base. Perhaps it’s Slideshare presentations on your blog or website. Or maybe it’s webinars or Twitter chats. The goal is to simply be helpful.
4. Send a weekly e-mail.
This is a simple way to stay in touch with your audience on a consistent basis. If you’re already creating content for a blog, spotlight your most-read stories in the e-mail. Don’t send an e-mail just to send it, though – always strive to provide something of value.
5. Request testimonials.
Spotlighting customer testimonials is a guaranteed way to boost your company’s credibility. People like to see how others have benefitted – and how they could, too. Sprinkle the testimonials throughout your marketing materials, and feature them on your website or blog.
6. Hand out cool giveaways.
People love promotional products. Aim to give out swag that’s useful or interesting to your target audience. The cooler it is, the more likely they are to hang on to it, getting your company repeated exposure.
Put these ideas in motion to not only market your business, but to ensure you’re engaging your audience. Give each tactic a solid time investment, monitor the results, and create better brand visibility.
