Pulling out my soap box……….. getting situated……. picking up my mega-horn……….. Here goes……..
Dogs on Deployment finds foster homes for the pets of service men and women whilst on deployment.
My son joined the Marines whilst still in high school and in a few weeks will ship out to basic training. While he has a lot on his mind one thing he does not have to worry about is his Russian-Blue-Ninja-Death-Assasin-Dog-in-a-gray-Furry-Cat-Suit. She gets to stay with us and continue stirring up trouble wherever she goes!
Not all of our service men and women have that luxury. This is a great cause that we all need to get behind. By adding this information to our websites, newsletters and blogs (as I am doing now) we can all take a step back from our day to day tasks and crises and look at something real, really real!
Pets are family members and to troops returning from deployment are a loving, unquestioningly loyal ball of therapy. They should be looked after whilst their humans are away and the humans should not have to worry about them.
On the Dogs on Deployment website you can copy images and graphics and find tons of resources to help promote Dogs on Deployment.
You are ideally situated to spread the word to your students and parents. If you have a tutoring center please display a poster, if you are afterschool care and camp oriented make the posters, show the free power point from the DoD site and spread awareness. Foster a pet, tell a service member about the service, or just put the logo and link on your website.
