If you need a reasonIf You Need a Reason!

We have completed a full year of reasons to have a promotional event so as well as giving you a new idea for an event during April of 2013, I will also invite you to read last year’s so you have two Kath’s Picks to choose from.

If you Need a Reason April 2012

Kath’s Pick

From the ultra serious Sexual Assault awareness event we planned last year I will come full circle to something light and flippant for this month’s event: April Fools’ Day on April 1st. We can’t be serious all the time and whilst March is traditionally associated with any kind of madness campaign as we see March Madness everywhere, a ‘foolish’ giveaway for April is just as appropriate and lots of fun.

April Fools’ Day, occurring annually on April 1st in the U.S and many countries around the world, is a fun-filled day of good-hearted pranks and practical jokes. Although there are many different theories about the origin of April Fools’ Day, it seems to be somehow related to the ancient Gregorian calendar, which celebrated the new year around April 1st. Those who continued to celebrate the new year after the switch to the Julian calendar were teased as ‘April Fools!’

Approach your event from the angle that you will be giving them so much it is almost foolish. What you give them will be up to you to decide based on what you can afford; buy one get one free, or buy ten get one free, it’s up to you. It’s about getting your name out there and keeping the parents talking about you.

Talk to your local newspaper to see if they will run a story on your event. As always write yourself a press release and release it online together with taking brochures to the local schools and recreation centers to get the word out there. Don’t forget to check your insurance. Always, check and see if other organizations are marking the event in any way, perhaps you could go and talk at their event.

Last but not least give away some promotional items during your event. epromos does branded whoopee cushions that you can give away prior or during the month of April to help promote the event, and tell them The Tutor Report sent you. Then your only problem is how to stop your students using them in class! As always have fun!

If you don’t like the above idea see if you can create a promotional event from one of the following campaigns, holidays or events.

1. National Child Abuse Awareness Month.

2. Easter – First Sunday in April.

3. Jazz Appreciation Month.

4. Sports Eye Safety Month.

5. Administrative Professionals Week – Last Week in April.

6. Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

7. National Playground Safety Week – Last Week in April.

8. Earth Day – April 22nd.

9. National Oral Health Month.

10. National DARE day – First Thursday in April.

If I’ve missed any important ones or you have additional ideas please post them in the comments section below!
