The School Improvement Grant (SIG) program presents many opportunities for private sector involvement. School districts may use school improvement grants to wholly restructure a low performing school’s leadership and curriculum model, including but not limited to, turning over management of the school to an Education Management Organization, implementing new extended learning time and after-school programs, or mandating extensive professional development training for staff. Many school districts will need the expertise of contractors, consultants, and other education professionals to implement a successful school turnaround.
