The Tech Tutor brings you part one of Start Your Own Tutoring Website Today!
If you have some basic computer knowledge it is possible to create and manage your own tutoring website, and if you don’t, well if you follow my steps it’s not that difficult to find your way around.
So welcome to the complete guide for starting a tutoring website!
1. You Are Going to Need a Domain.
The Domain is your website name and designator such as yourname.com or yourname.org. You will need to make sure the domain is available and pay a small fee for the name. Some people buy up popular names and then want to sell them at a profit so get creative if this happens to you. I recommend Host Gator as it will simplify step 2 for you.
Press on the gator and see if your domain name is available.
2. Your Website Needs to Live Somewhere.
Most of their plans come with the basic framework that you are going to need to run your website.
Press on the Gator to view the plans.
3. The Control Panel
In this control panel, you will have access to a page called “Fantastico”, this is a page where you can install different types of internet software, from community forums to blogs.
Remember to start small and build out – don’t try to do everything at once.
4. The Back Door to Your Website
In this case, we are going to use the WordPress framework to run our website. WordPress is one of the most popular website systems these days. Almost everyone runs their website with WordPress, especially bloggers.
But I digress, inside Fantastico find the WordPress icon, and click it, you will be walked through a set of setup instructions. Most of these can be left blank if its your first website, but make sure to follow the on screen directions.
5. Login to Word Press
After the installation is complete, if everything was successful, you should be presented with a page where you use the username and password that you chose, during setup, to login. Voila! after you are in, you can start building your website.
Make sure to click around wordpress and make yourself familiar with it and don’t worry! If you break anything, you can just follow the steps above and re-do it.
6. Check Out Your New Website
Visit your new site by going to to http://yourdomain.com and see the default wordpress site. Log back into WordPress and bookmark this link:
http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin will be your login link to access the administrator functionality. It is easier to work if you have wordpress on one monitor and the actual site on another.
You can use your website to introduce yourself to potential clients, list certifications, contact info, and pricing information.
