Before anything else, your customers see color. It’s your first sensory touch point with them, and it matters as much as every other decision you make for your tutoring business.
Color is so important in your branding because it helps customers instantly recognize and draw emotional associations to your company.
Just think of the brands that come to mind when you see a black apple or yellow arches. Color is a critical component for Apple and McDonald’s – and it should be for your business, too.
Color sets the mood for the experience people are going to have with your brand. The more receptive their mood, the more engagement they’ll have with your brand.
So how does a tutoring business go about choosing a color and color scheme? Start by looking at these three things:
1. Your identity
Be authentic when choosing a color to represent your brand. Customers intuitively know if the color connects with your brand. If it’s a bad match, it turns them off. But if you select a color based on what your tutoring company wants to communicate – new ideas, a solid foundation, one-on-one instruction – it can really resonate with your audience.
2. Your target customers
Who are you trying to reach? What matters to them? What kind of mood must they be in to engage with your brand? Also, take a look at what other tutoring companies are doing. Use colors to differentiate your company and to make it easy for customers to remember your brand.
3. How well the colors print
You want to be sure your branding is consistent wherever your logo shows up: online, on printed materials and on your promotional products. Be aware of two different color models: RGB and CMYK. The RGB color model allows for thousands of different shades to be seen online, while the CMYK model, the color model for printing ink, can’t always replicate every shade seen on your computer.
Choosing colors to represent your brand shouldn’t be based on what’s trendy or different, or inspired by your personal taste. Select the colors that will define your brand’s value, strengthen your position in the marketplace and distinguish your business among the alternatives.
